With the second seriously cold snap of the winter upon us, we've got some tips to help you on the roads:
- Check your anti-freeze level and if topping up make sure to use the correct mixture of water to anti-freeze. Water on its own can freeze, turn to ice and expand, causing permanent damage to your engine.
- Check all your lights are clean of snow and ice, and that all are working. Get a friend or relative to help you with this.
- Check your windscreen wash level and that it is mixed to a strong enough concentration to prevent it freezing.
- Ensure your tyres are correctly inflated and meet legal minimum standards (1.6mm tread depth over the centre 75% of the tyre).
- Ensure your vehicle is regularly serviced to identify any additional problems.
If unsure of any of the above, we are currently offering a 55 Point Winter Service for just £49.95 inc. VAT. This covers all above components plus more, so you can be confident that your vehicle is ready for winter driving. Please note this is not a substitute for regular major servicing.
Also remember to carry appropriate emergency equipment for the distance you're travelling. This may include:
- Ice scraper and de-icer
- Torch and spare batteries
- Warm clothes and a blanket
- Boots
- First aid kit
- Jump leads
- Food and a warm drink in a thermos
- A shovel
- Reflective warning sign
- Sunglasses - the glare off snow can be dazzling
